Can Botox Cure Sinus Headaches?

Botox is a neurotoxin produced by a bacteria called Clostridium botulism that grows in canned food that has not been sterilized correctly and causes botulism. This toxin paralyses nerves and prevents them from releasing acetylcholine that blocks muscles and stops them from contracting which is also known as paralysis. Botox has been used for therapeutic treatments from wrinkle reduction to pain elimination. It is also useful for treating facial spasms and tics and spasticity for those who suffer from cerebral palsy. It was discovered that Botox is also an effective treatment of headaches by accident. Botox was being injected in the forehead and brow of patients and was found to be useful as a preventative measure for headaches. The injection of Botox for headaches is recommended for adults who suffer from chronic migraines if they have those episodes 15 days out of every month or if those headaches last longer…

How does Liposuction Actually Work?

Liposuction is a medical procedure done by a certified plastic surgeon. You will need to consult with a plastic surgeon to have a physical exam so that your doctor can make a decision as to whether you are a good candidate for the surgery. Your doctor will discuss with you what you can expect during and after the surgery, including complications and problems that can occur. If you decide to proceed with liposuction, here in Montreal or elsewhere, your doctor will mark your body with a thick black marker where fat is to be removed prior to your surgery. You will then go under anaesthesia – either general or local, depending on what you and your surgeon decided ahead of time. Your physician may choose to prescribe an antibiotic drug for you to take before and after the surgery. You will receive anaesthesia medicine that will be injected together with…

Can Rhinoplasty Correct Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder that affects a person during the time they are sleeping. A person with this condition will experience moments during sleep where their breathing is paused. Some people breathe in a shallow manner instead of having pauses in their breathing. These breathing pauses only last a few seconds, but they can occur up to thirty times in an hour. After each pause, the breathing normalizes again and is often punctuated with a snort or choking sound. As a rhinoplasty specialist, I strive to keep my Montreal practice on the leading edge of innovative solutions for both Sleep apnea is a chronic issue that can affect sleep patterns. Instead of getting a full night’s restful sleep, people often wake the next day feeling unrested. People with sleep apnea can be affected throughout the day and experience periods where they doze off because they are exhausted. The…

Stages of Recovering from Facelift Surgery

Recovering from facelift surgery is a gradual process, and this process is best described in stages. It usually takes a full year to recover, but if done properly it will go smoothly and with minimal inconvenience. Stage One Resting is of primary importance during the first week of recovery; however, this does not mean you should be confined to bed for the entire time. You should be able to move around within 48 hours after surgery. Common symptoms are fatigue and nausea (usually due to pain medication) as well as swelling and bruising on the face (due to surgery). You may also feel stiffness and soreness in the neck, ears, and face, but if you take your medication as prescribed by the surgeon the discomfort should be minimal. Remember that even though you can move around, activities should remain light. Stage Two Bruising and swelling normally occurs on one or…

Maintenance After A Nose Job

Men and women who see me for a “nose job,” or rhinoplasty, here in Montreal are often surprised to learn that the results require some maintenance in order to ensure they last as long as possible. Rhinoplasty procedures vary and as a result the maintenance work and recovery time also varies. Major procedures require much more post-surgical maintenance than smaller ones, such as a procedure where the nose has to be broken. Small procedures, such as minor changes to the nasal septum and cartilage, will require less maintenance work and recovery will be faster. The tip of the nose and nostrils require less post-surgical care and recover much more quickly due to its elasticity. Therefore with proper care, you should be able to enjoy a speedy recovery. Post-Surgical Maintenance Difficulty breathing through the nose is a common side effect of a rhinoplasty procedure. Patients are advised to breathe through the…
